A monitoring system provided according to an aspect of the present invention enables a user to specify one or more resource elements as a group, and compute an Abnormality Index that represents the deviation from a baseline operation of these selected resource elements. In an embodiment, the Abnormality Index is computed as a single number. The user may include any desired attributes of each resource element to be considered in determining deviations. The Abnormality Index represents the number of deviations, the seriousness of deviation (e.g., more serious if deviation relates to unavailability of the resource element), and the extent of deviation (i.e., whether the deviation is based on expected operation for hourly, daily or weekly duration).
An improved method and system for complex and integrated application performance management which tracks end-to-end computer resource consumption of a first business application workflow in an enterprise system. The first business application workflow may include a plurality of components. The plurality of components may further include one or more component types. A second or subsequent business application workflow may be embedded or linked as a component of the first business application workflow. Resource usage information of the plurality of components (including resource usage information of underlying units of work of the plurality of components) may be correlated to determine cumulative resource usage information for the first business application workflow. The resource usage information may be displayed in a graphical user interface. User input may be received indicating one or more of the following for the first business application workflow: an application name, a natural business unit, and a mission-critical ranking.
A method and system for inputing data to a sort utility from a user program. In one embodiment, first parameters may facilitate optimization for both programs, by either the user program or the sort utility. The sort utility may process the first parameters to optimize sorting by: returning second parameters to the user program; and supporting a multi-record interface between the two programs. The sort utility may process the data records into the multi-record interface by constructing reformatted data records and inserting the reformatted data records into the multi-record interface, or by utilizing an exit routine to construct and insert the reformatted data records into the multi-record interface. The sort utility may sort the data records (e.g., by directly processing them), optimizing memory usage by the sort utility and/or the user program. The processing and sorting actions of the sort utility program may be coordinated and overlapped.
A system and method for automated database management are provided. Statistics relating to operation of a database may be collected, wherein the database comprises one or more database objects. Characteristics of the database objects may be determined, either automatically or by user intervention, using the collected statistics, one or more policies, and/or one or more definitions. The policies and definitions may be defaults or may be customized by a user. Actions to be performed on the database objects may be determined, either automatically or by user intervention, based on the characteristics of the database objects. A schedule for performing the actions on the database objects may be automatically determined. The actions may be performed on the database objects based on the schedule. The actions on the database objects may be confirmed. The results of the actions on the database objects may be analyzed or monitored. Policies and/or definitions may be reconfigured based on the results. The system and method may automatically decide to perform one or more REORG actions on the database objects based on the statistics. A recommendation of a modification to one or more of the database objects may be generated based on the statistics. The scheduled actions may be modified as a result of detecting a change in the characteristics or usage of at least one of the database objects.
