The present invention relates to photochromic compounds of spiro[indoline[2,3']-naphthoxazine] structure, characterized in that they contain, in the 6' position, a group R.sub.6 chosen from the following groups: cyano and phenylsulfonyl linked via the sulfur atom to carbon 6', and methods of using such compounds.
