A biomaterial composition for the resorption/substitution of organic supporting tissues, including 20-75 wt. % of an inorganic phase consisting of particles that include either hydroxyapatite (A) optionally mixed with tricalcium phosphate .beta. (B), or calcium-titaniumphosphate (Ca(Ti).sub.4 (PO.sub.4).sub.6) (C), and 80-25 wt. % of a liquid phase including an aqueous solution of a water-soluble biocompatible polymer that is cross-linkable under the effect of the pH of the medium. The composition is sterilizable, injectable and curable in biological media to form a biomaterial for replacing supporting tissues.
Composition for biomaterial for resorption/substitution of support tissues, dental tissues, bone tissues and osteoarticular tissues, which is made up of 40 to 75% by weight of a mineral phase comprising either a mixture of .beta. tricalcium phosphate (A) and hydroxyapatite (B), in a ratio A:B of between 20:80 and 70:30, or calcium titanium phosphate (Ca(Ti).sub.4 (PO.sub.4).sub.6) (C), and 60 to 25% by weight of a liquid phase comprising an aqueous solution of a polymer derived from cellulose. The mineral phase is a powder with a particle size 80 to 200 .mu.m in diameter. Preferably, the liquid phase is hydroxypropyl cellulose, and the concentration of the polymer in the liquid phase is from 0.5 to 4% by weight. The composition is prepared by mixing the mineral phase and the polymer of the liquid phase in an aqueous solution of defined viscosity, and sterilizing the liquid composition thus obtained.
An integrated solid body of biological interest is produced by admixing a mineral powder with a biologically active principle, and then subjecting the mixture thus obtained to a shockwave thereby to produce an integrated solid body. The shockwave is generated by explosion or by launching a projectile toward the mixture. The mixture is confined in a mold cavity prior to application of the shockwave. The mold cavity is placed under vacuum prior to application of the shockwave. Particles of the mixture are thus cold bonded to each other. The body is in the form of an implant for the human body. The mineral powder is a calcium phosphate, e.g. octocalcium phosphate, dicalcium phosphate, dihydrated dicalcium phosphate, tricalcium phosphate and tetracalcium phosphate.
The coating for a prothesis system has a resorbability gradient in the direction perpendicular to the surface of the prothesis system, the internal layer being the least resorbable. It can consist of phospho-calcium material or of two or several successive layers having different resorbabilities and having said resorbability gradient. The prothesis systems covered with the coating according to the invention are used in surgery for the provision of thigh-bone protheses as well as protheses for the facial, ear, nose and throat surgery and the like.
