A puncture and abrasion resistant, air and water impervious laminated fabric is provided. The laminated fabric includes a woven fabric base layer having warp and weft yarns, with at least 50 percent of the fibers in the warp yarns being formed of high performance material. A first thermoplastic film is bonded by heat and pressure to at least one of the sides of the fabric base layer. The first thermoplastic film is formed of ethylene vinyl acetate. A second thermoplastic film is bonded by heat and pressure to the first thermoplastic film on at least one of sides of the fabric. The second thermoplastic film is formed from either high density polyethylene or low density polyethylene.
A storm panel system for protecting the interior of a building having a fabric panel of a size and shape as to extend across a selected door or window is provided. A closure system accessible from the outside removably attaches the fabric panel to the outer surface of a building surrounding a window or door opening. The fabric panel has at least one access opening which is selectively closeable at the user's election. The selectively closeable access opening allows access through the opening to the outside to attach and release the panel from the structure by a person from inside the structure. Thus a user can access the exterior of building to install, adjust or remove the fabric panel, before during or after a storm.
The invention relates to a process for making a puncture resistant laminated fabric comprising laminating a layer of polyethylene film to a layer of fabric comprised of an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene. The laminating step is conducted at a temperature between about 230.degree. F. and about 290.degree. F. with a contact time of between about 5 minutes and about 15 minutes with the application of a laminating pressure of between about 50 psi and about 500 psi.
A fabric closure for open end cargo containers of the type having a plurality of walls, a top wall, a bottom wall, and at least one open end, including a fabric panel formed of high-strength yams, multiple web strap pairs attached to the panel, and adjustable fasteners attached to the web strap pairs to prevent items of cargo stowed in the container from passing around or through the fabric closure.
