A method for tracking a vehicle includes receiving information for the vehicle as the vehicle departs a starting location, creating a data record for the vehicle, receiving updated information for the vehicle, updating the data record for the vehicle, and finalizing the data record for the vehicle as the vehicle reaches a final location. The data record is located at a centralized data center and the update information is provided from an intermediate location.
