Decorative paper with a wear resistant decorative layer is made by limiting the flow of melamine resin through the decorative paper. A partially cured melamine resin impregnated overlay is placed over non-impregnated decorative paper and cured at temperatures of about 230-310.degree. F. (110-155.degree. C.) and pressures of greater than about 300 psi (20 bar) and preferably about 750-1500 psi (51-102 bar) for causing melamine resin to flow from the overlay into the decorative paper and for substantially fully curing the melamine resin. Flow of the melamine resin is limited to about 10-20 and preferably about 12-17 percent by weight of the impregnated overlay. Flow of melamine resin in impregnated decorative paper is limited to about 1-3 and preferably about 1-2 percent by weight of the impregnated decorative paper.
Multilayered dimensional laminates with improved depth appearance are provided that include a plurality of decorative layers having the same or different patterns layered so that a portion of each pattern is visible in the final dimensional laminate. Such laminate may further include a backing or core. Methods for making and using the multilayered dimensional laminates are also provided.
The process for manufacturing extruded ABS products includes recycling used ABS to produce a recycled ABS exhibiting predetermined characteristics and extruding the recycled ABS to produce an ABS product.
Filled crystalline thermoplastic resin chips are incorporated into a filled synthetic resin matrix for producing varicolored mineral appearing articles. Wollastonite filled polyphthalamide resin chips increase the surface hardness and decrease the ASTM E 84 Smoke Index of neopentyl glycol/isophthalic polyester molded articles. Crystalline thermoplastics can be extruded in shapes for providing varishaped chips.
