Techniques to manage bandwidth using weighted reduction are described wherein a combined instantaneous data rate for a set of logical channels is determined, a determination is made whether a transport format combination (TFC) is valid for the combined instantaneous data rate, and an instantaneous data rate for at least one of the logical channels is reduced using a weighted reduction technique.
