A door lock assembly is provided for secure multipoint locking of a door. The lock assembly comprises a main lock cartridge in combination with one or more remote secondary lock cartridges mounted at one side edge of a door, with the main lock cartridge having an actuator for manipulating a plurality of lock members. In one preferred form for use with a hinged or swinging door, the lock members comprise a plurality of latch bolts movable to a first extended position for normal door latching, or to a second and further extended position to function as multiple deadbolts. In an alternate preferred form for use with a sliding door, the lock members comprise headed latch pins for engaging .keeper plates on the adjacent door jamb. In either embodiment, the door jamb may comprise the adjacent side edge of a second or semi-active door in a double door entry set, wherein the second door desirably includes a header-sill lock assembly which is maintained in a positively locked condition unless the adjacent door is opened.
An improved multipoint lock assembly is provided for securing a swinging door in a tightly closed condition. The multipoint lock assembly includes a main actuator cartridge for retracting a plurality of latch pins mounted at vertically spaced positions along a free side edge of the swinging door, in response to rotational movement of indoor and outdoor lever handles. A trigger assembly retains the latch pins in a retracted position in response to lever handle rotation to open the door, and includes a trigger pin for engaging the adjacent door jamb upon door closure to release the latch pins for spring-loaded movement to an advanced position. The advanced latch pins engage ramped strike plates on the door jamb to draw in and tightly retain the closed door against the door jamb. When the latch pins are advanced, a security deadbolt on the main actuator cartridge can be thrown to positively lock the door. When the deadbolt is thrown, a panic release mechanism permits retraction of the deadbolt and latch pins in response to rotation of the indoor lever handle, but not in response to rotation of the outdoor lever handle.

An improved door handle and lock assembly is provided for use with sliding glass patio doors of the type used in residential dwellings and the like. The handle and lock assembly comprises inside and outside escutcheons for mounting onto the vertical stile at one side edge of a sliding door and carrying a respective pair of handles for use in manually sliding the door between open and closed positions. A lock mechanism mounted into the stile is operated by a keyed lock cylinder unit mounted on the outside escutcheon and by a manually pivoted latch lever mounted on the inside escutcheon. The handles and latch lever are adapted for reversible mounting onto their associated escutcheons to permit reconfiguration of the assembly for mounting onto the stile at the left or right side edge of the door. In addition, the outside escutcheon is supported on the door stile by an inside bracket plate which permits partial mounting of the assembly onto the door and to permit operation of the lock mechanism without the inside escutcheon during a construction phase, with the inside escutcheon being subsequently mounted over and concealing the bracket plate.
