The object of the present invention is to create a template for print settings used for printing a document based on an existing document. To achieve the object, the present invention is capable of registering the print settings for a document being currently edited as template information and reading the registered template information as print settings for the document being currently edited or a new document. Thus, in the present invention, the print settings for an existing document can be utilized as print settings for printing a document. More preferably, the contents of a registered template can be edited. More preferably, a document in the present invention has a tree structure with pages as leaves; print settings can be made for each subtree; and, when a template is registered, the print settings made for the entire tree structure are registered as the template. More preferably, the document has a tree structure with pages as leaves; print settings can be made for each subtree; settings made at a lower hierarchy are preferentially applied to overlapped setting items; and when a template is registered, the print settings applied to a selected subtree is registered as a template. More preferably, the print settings can be modified by editing the document.
An object of this invention is to provide an apparatus and method capable of printing part of a book file by designating the range. A setting user interface window is displayed from a print setting menu, a desired unit is selected from a print target column, and the range is designated in the selected unit. The designated range is printed including an original page within the designated range and another original page to be printed on the same paper sheet as that of the original page. The range can be designated by an entire book file, chapter, page, or booklet.
When "store" of intermediate data is designated in a print process, a spooler stores intermediate data and an output job setup file in a spool file. When the stored job is selected, a previewer displays a list of jobs, and displays a print preview image. In this case, if "Same side on" is designated, pages of successive jobs are laid out without any gaps. If "new sheet" is designated, pages of the trailing job are laid out on a new sheet. If "Other side on" is designated, pages of the trailing job are laid out on a new surface.
A document processing technique which provides an editing function of, e.g., combining separately created document files into one document file is disclosed. When an instruction to insert the second document file to the first document file displayed in the display region is input, candidates for the insertion method of the second document file in inserting the second document file to the first document file are presented in accordance with the input instruction. The second document file is inserted to the first document file on the basis of the insertion method selected from the presented candidates.
Upon designating bookbinding print, preview images are displayed in a layout after bookbinding. When "store" of intermediate data is designated in a print process, a spooler (302) stores intermediate data and an output job setup file in a spool file (303). When the stored job is selected, a previewer (306) displays a list of jobs, and displays a print preview image. In this case, upon setting bookbinding print, pages are displayed in a spread state and order after bookbinding. Also, the open direction (right or left open), and the bookbinding unit are also expressed on preview images.
